Excel to Google Sheets migration
Uploading an Excel file to Google Drive converts most of it. The parts that don't convert are usually the parts that matter: VBA macros, Power Query, some array formulas, external links and certain charts. I move the workbook over, rebuild what broke and translate macros into Apps Script so the file works the way it did, and often better.
Get a fixed quoteWhat I build
Each project is scoped to your sheet. These are the pieces I build most often.
Formula audit
Every formula checked after conversion, with the ones that behave differently rebuilt using Sheets functions like QUERY, FILTER, ARRAYFORMULA or XLOOKUP.
VBA to Apps Script
Macros rewritten in Apps Script, with the same buttons or menu items, so the steps your team knows still work.
Linked workbooks
External links replaced with IMPORTRANGE or a script that syncs the files on a schedule.
Power Query replacements
Data imports and transforms rebuilt with formulas or a scheduled script.
Sharing and protection
Protected ranges and permissions set so people can edit what they should and nothing else.
Side-by-side check
Results in the new sheet compared against the original Excel file before you switch over.
A typical migration
A small firm has a pricing workbook with a VBA macro that builds a quote sheet and saves a PDF. In Google Sheets, the macro is gone and two lookup formulas fail. The migrated version has a Build Quote menu item that does the same job in Apps Script, saves the PDF to the client's Drive folder and emails it if asked.
Questions about excel to google sheets migration
Does everything in Excel work in Google Sheets?
Most formulas do. VBA, Power Query, Power Pivot and some add-ins don't run in Sheets and need rebuilding. I'll list exactly what needs work after a first look at the file.
Can we keep using Excel for some people?
Yes, but two-way syncing gets messy. Usually one file becomes the source of truth and the other is a read-only export.
Will our numbers come out the same?
That's the point of the side-by-side check. I compare totals and key results against the original before you switch.
What about very large workbooks?
Google Sheets has a 10 million cell limit and slows down with heavy formulas well before that. If a workbook is too big, I'll split it or suggest a different approach.
Tell me what your sheet needs to do
A few sentences is enough to start. I'll reply with questions, then a plan and a fixed quote.
